RESCHEDULED TO FEB. 17: Terre Deegan-Young to present about Vietnam War “Donut Dollies”
On Saturday, February 10, 2024, On Feb. 17, Terre Deegan-Young will talk about her experiences as a Red Cross “Donut Dolly” during the Vietnam War. Raised in a Chicago suburb, she was hired by the Red Cross shortly after graduating from college. She served as a recreation specialist for the Supplemental Recreation Activities Overseas (SRAO) program and arrived in South Vietnam in 1970. She and other recreation specialists, nicknamed “Donut Dollies,” created programs to bring cheer and a touch of home to the many young soldiers who were deployed in scattered firebases throughout the country—often risking their own lives.

On display now at the Broomfield Veterans Museum, this exhibit showcases this path-breaking WWII European theater unit and its ties to Colorado. We’re open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, so come on down.

Special Presentation about end-of-life benefits for veterans; Feb. 12 at noon.
The Broomfield Veterans Support Alliance (BVSA) is hosting a presentation by Tim Hutchison, the
Broomfield Veteran Service Officer, on veteran end of life benefits for veterans and veteran spouses on
Monday February 12, 2024 at 12:00pm in the presentation room of the Veterans Museum in
Broomfield located at 12 Garden Center in Broomfield. Discussion will center on planning and
preparation for military burial benefits for veterans and spouses many of which need to be requested in
advance. All veterans and the spouses of veterans are invited to attend.

We’ll be closed starting Dec. 23, but will reopen on Jan. 4. Then on Saturday, Jan. 6, come to the Coffee & Conversation by Historians Flint Whitlock and David Little all about the path-breaking 10th Mountain Division. While you’re at the Museum, swing by the new exhibit to learn even more.

Holiday closure dates for the Museum
The Museum will close at noon on Saturday, Dec. 23 for a special holiday party for volunteers. We will reopen to the public on Thursday, January 4 at 10am. Thank you for making 2023 a wonderful year, and we’ll see you again in 2024!

Make your December bright with two great upcoming Coffee & Conversation programs
Drop the eggnog and tinsel and join us at the Museum. Dec. 9 at 10am will feature Don Brookings, speaking about his father’s experience as Father Christmas during WWII. On Dec. 16 at 10am will be a special Christmas movie accompanied by donuts, cider, and (of course) coffee.

Call to Action: Stockings for Veterans!
Christmas Stockings for Veterans are being collected starting Thursday, November 16 at the
Broomfield Veterans Museum. Drop by the museum located at 12 Garden Center, right off
Midway, with your filled stockings or Christmas treats to place into holiday gift bags that will be
distributed to local veterans. Last day to receive items will be Saturday, December 9th, by 2pm.
Little games, hard candies, gum, individually wrapped breakfast bars, black or white stockings,
Christmas chocolates, sugar free items, nail clippers, small puzzle books, small body lotion

Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony is Nov. 11!
Come to the Broomfield Veterans Museum parking lot at 11am on Saturday, Nov. 11 for the annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. This year we will feature Col. Don Davis (Marine retired) and current Deputy City Manager for Broomfield as our speaker. Take in patriotic music from the Mile High Fife and Drum as well as the Broomfield Civic Chorus. The National Anthem will be performed by Fourth Infantry Division Band singer SGT Ana Rodriguez. After the event stay and tour the Museum exhibits!

Aviator to share his story on Saturday, Oct. 21!
Broomfield Veterans Museum volunteer Bill Bacon was a Naval aviator who received an award in the Civil Air Patrol. He also served as an FAA designated flight examiner who issued over 4,000 licenses and upgrade ratings. In addition, he was a flight examiner on the CAF B-29 “Fifi”, and was a recipient of the FAA Master Pilot award; the Agency’s highest pilot award.
